Animation is what brings life and personality to all of the characters in our game titles. From grizzled soldiers of fortune to nightmarish creatures beyond the pale, it’s the animator’s job to provide a full set of animations for each and every one. Animators start with the 3D models created by our artists and they create a skeleton frame that will drive the motion. Then they bind the mesh to the skeleton and adjust how the skeleton moves the mesh until they have their own virtual action figure ready to animate. That’s when Raven’s talented animators gleefully enter their world of make believe and let their imaginations lose. They act out how each character should move, stand and attack. Animators work closely with their fellow game programmers to ensure a character or creature’s A.I. fits well with their given movements. Animators also work closely with motion capture data as an additional tool to help increase the quality and amount of animations for our titles. Whether it’s a weapon, machine, woman, man or monster, if it moves, then an animator was there to give it life.
